Week 6 Thursday 23rd August
About half-way through the Half-Marathon Training Schedule. Today's run was another 5 miles. We had already decided that we were going to do Bucknall Hospital run, not realising at the time that the run was just 4 miles, not 5. Luckily Sue put us right so we could do the mile loop before going off and doing the run.
The weather was absolutely perfect. Not sunny, not raining, not too hot, not too cold and not too windy. The run was a relatively easy one but I still found it hard-going and I remembered that Kath pointed it out a while ago that weekday runs will seem harder after being at work all day doing a very physical job. I hadn't made that connection before so I wondered why the longruns always seemed easier than the short ones. They are of course at the weekends and first thing in the morning when we are rested and fresh. Fortunately, that is also the time that the half-marathon will be run, so that works out perfect for me.
We all agreed that we didn't want, or even need, to run up Lime Kiln Bank, second time, so we were hoping that the run would be long enough to come to 5 miles at the bottom. Sadly it wasn't so we had to run along Leek Road up to the steps that goes to Abbey Hulton and then back along to the crossroads which worked out perfect and then we had a nice cool down walk back to Northwood.
We are looking forward to moving to the new premises so that we can extend the existing runs and create new ones as we are all getting bored with doing the same trips again and again. I swear we could do some of the runs in our sleep, LOL.
