Day 17

Week 3, Day 3 - Wednesday 1st of August

Gosh, August already!  No running today but I have finally got around to booking Congleton Half-Marathon.  Now there is no turning back....I have to run it and complete it and suddenly it feels scary.  What am I going to do if I can't complete it? I might start off too fast or not being able to run up that hill at the end.  I daren't think about it yet.

There has still not been any noticeable improvement from my balancing exercises but I think the strength exercises are working because I seem to manage to carry more equipment at work.  I'm wondering if my balance ever could improve as it is something I have always struggled with.  I once read, a long time ago, that it is the ears that controls your balance and I wonder if there might be a connection between poor hearing and poor balance.

I have forgotten to mention that, since Sunday I have been doing an additional exercise.  After that Parkrun week before last when I strained my lungs; I decided to look on google to see if there are any physio exercises for the lungs.  Not as such but there are breathing exercises that sports people do to expand the lungs capacity.  It's not difficult to do, so I can do them anywhere at any time.  You have to exhale all the way, making sure that all air is out and then you can breathe in the maximum amount of air.  It didn't help me yesterday with the run but I'm hoping it might help me with the half-marathon.
