Week 7, Saturday 1st of September
Park Run day :-)
My favourite day of the week and I was worried that I had woken up to an IBS attack but luckily I was wrong and it turned out to be nothing to worry about.
I jogged to the park as usual but I didn't bother to track it as it seems more reliable to copy an old park run than risk getting a rubbish one due to the GPS problems I've been having.
My right Achilles had a odd little pull in it and I was wondering whether I should take it easy today in case I could be risking injury so I went to start a little further back than usual. The run took off, I went along with it at a better pace, not too fast but not too slow either. It didn't really matter if I didn't get my pb today as being fit and able for Congleton is far more important.
I overtook a few runners and one girl overtook me but she then slowed down for the banks so I overtook her again. I recognised her and knew that she is usually much faster than me so guessed she was also taking it easy for some reason.
The run was as enjoyable as it ever could be. It felt like I was going fast but I wasn't straining anything. Rachel kept coming up closer at time so I would automatically speed up to keep her at bay. I don't know if she was trying to catch me up but I was determined that I wasn't letting her past again and that's how we ran all throughout the run.
I finished with an exhilarating sprint with Rachel just seconds behind me. Wow, it felt more fantastic than ever. I made a mental note to thank Liz Tideswell for introducing me to parkrun next time I see her.
When my results text came through I was astonished to have beaten my pb by 42 seconds even though I hadn't particularly tried to. How amazing is that?
