Day 69

Week 10, Saturday 22nd September

Parkrun Day but not just an ordinary parkrun.  This was the 1st Anniversary of Hanley Parkrun and we were running in fancy dress.  The theme was supposed to be "Best of British" but I couldn't single out any particular person so I decided to just represent the 3 nations.  My costume consisted of a hat with a cuddly toy of a Welsh dragon attached, pinned to my top I had a small St George's Cross with a rose attached (English Rose) and a picnic blanket as a makeshift Scottish kilt.  It probably looked a right mess but it worked for me.

This morning I was shocked to see the car all frozen and wasn't looking forward of the prospect of having this kind of weather for the next 8 months or so.  However, it soon thawed and the weather turned out really warm and sunny in the end. The run was good and it was great to see so many people in fancy dress or with flags, etc.  It was also the biggest turnout ever.  Last week we broke our record with 63 runners; today we had an incredible 96.

What a lot of food we had, everyone had been generous and brought a contribution to a communal picnic.  There were all sort of goodies to be had, even oatcakes.  I brought egg sandwiches, half on white bread and half on brown and was quite surprised and pleased to see all the brown ones go first.  Us runners, are we just healthier than average or was it the case of; "if you have a healthy sandwich you can have an extra cake"? LOL!  Debbie's daughter, Paris, had made the nicest cupcakes I'd ever eaten.  They were covered in blue and red butter cream and very creamy, soft and tasty.  I'm not really a fan of cakes but I'm very pleased that I had one.

I always love parkrun anyway but this one was the best ever and I couldn't believe it that Kath missed it.  She had to work over and ended up having to go to bed.  What a terrible shame.
