Last week I promised myself that I will try a little 5 minute run today. As the time got nearer, I started to get increasingly nervous about it. Even though I was very excited, I did still keep getting thoughts in my head like "what if it really is too early as it hasn't quite gone 3 weeks since my surgery?" or "what if I do some damage and it will delay my recovery even further?" I wasn't sure if the reason of not running for 4 weeks after surgery was because things hadn't healed or if it was purely for the doctors to safeguard themselves?
Anyway, I did my warm-up stretches and went for a quick walk around the block and then I ran. Only slow but OMG, how much I loved it! Short of holding my phone in my hand, I had no way of working out when the 5 minutes was up, so I tried to estimate that if I ran around a particular block of houses, it would be about right. However, I got back home and I had only done 3 minutes so I had to immediately go out and do some more. In the end it worked out at nearly 7 minutes but I don't mind.
I can't say that I have noticed any problems yet and I hope it stays that way. If I'm still okay tomorrow, I will extend the run to 10 minutes, then 15, 20, etc for the rest of the week. At least I know one thing now; I'm pleased to note that the surgery was a complete success. Happy me :-)
